Its name reflects the similarity of the tree to a Norway Maple (A. platanoides), in growth rate, branch TheNorway Maple was introduced in the US in 1756 and is native to Europe. It has been available as an ornamental tree sold in nurseries since its introduction into the United States. The Norway Maple is similar to the Sugar Maple except where its seed wings are on a 180 degree angle and the Sugar Maple's seeds are on a 120 degree angle. Genus Acer can be deciduous trees or large shrubs with paired, often palmately-lobed leaves and small flowers followed by characteristic winged fruits.
